Book Formatting Agreement
Make sure to read and understand the whole agreement below before proceeding to fill out your new request.
1. Purpose of the Agreement
2. Rights & Ownership
-
The Author retains all rights to the book’s content.
-
The Formatter does not claim any copyright or publishing rights.
-
The Formatter’s role is strictly to format the material provided by the Author.
3. Payment Terms
-
A down payment of 50% or more is required before work begins.
-
The remaining balance is due upon final delivery, after review.
-
Full payment at the start is also acceptable if the Author prefers.
4. Timeline & Delivery
-
A timeline for completion will be agreed upon by both parties at the start.
-
If the Formatter anticipates a delay, they will notify the Author at least one week in advance.
-
Unless otherwise agreed, delivery shall not be more than five (5) business days past the original deadline.
-
The same timely communication is expected from the Author, especially if they are delayed in providing materials or feedback.
5. Reviews & Revisions
-
The Author is allowed up to five (5) review rounds after the initial formatted draft is submitted.
-
Minor edits (spacing, font, headers, etc.) are covered in the review process.
-
Major deviations from the original manuscript—such as replacing large sections of content or resubmitting an entirely new file—may result in an additional charge of 20% of the original quote.
6. Author Responsibilities
-
Provide a clean, final version of the manuscript in an editable format (e.g., Word, Google Docs).
-
Specify formatting preferences in advance (e.g., trim size, font style, chapter headers).
-
Respond to communications and review drafts in a timely manner.
-
Make final payment upon approval of the formatted book.
7. Formatter Responsibilities
-
Format the manuscript professionally according to the specifications provided.
-
Deliver the final files in agreed-upon formats (e.g., PDF for print, ePub for digital).
-
Complete the project on time or notify of any reasonable delays.
-
Offer technical support for formatting-related questions up to 7 days after delivery.
8. Termination & Refund Policy
-
If the Author cancels the project after work has begun, the down payment is non-refundable.
-
If the Formatter cancels due to unforeseen circumstances and has not delivered 50% of the work, a full refund of the down payment will be issued.
-
Both parties agree to communicate clearly and resolve disputes in good faith.
9. Agreement Confirmation
Make sure you’ve read the whole agreement above before proceeding to fill out the book formatting form.
